Oguchi Onyewu was the hero for Sporting, scoring twice on Sunday in a 2-0 win over Biera Mar. Onyewu opened the scoring with an 18th minute header and used his head again for the second goal in the 27th. He was yellow carded in the opening minute. The win moves Sporting into 4th-place in the Portuguese Liga.
Elsewhere in Europe, Michael Bradley went 74 minutes for Chievo in a 3-0 loss to Lazio. Chievo trailed by a goal when Bradley subbed out, his absence a rarity this season. Jozy Altidore played the second-half for AZ in a 2-0 loss to Roda JC. The final score was already set before Altidore subbed on with Roda scoring in the 10th and 33rd minutes. Altidore was yellow carded in the 80th minute. Sacha Kljestan went 76 minutes for Anderlecht in a scoreless draw with Germinal Beeschot.
In the FA Cup, Zak Whitbread started for Norwich City, beating WBA 2-1. Grant Holt put Norwich up in the 35th minute, with West Brom equalizing in the 54th. Simeon Jackson scored the winner in the 85th. Jonathan Spector got the start for Birmingham City in a lopsided 4-0 win over Sheffield United. Same score but the wrong end of the result for Frank Simek and Carlisle, who exit the Cup after losing 4-0 to Hartlepool.
And again with that 4-0 score line, this time in the Scottish Premier League. Rangers took care of Hibs 4-0 with Maurice Edu and Carlos Bocanegra starting.
Bundesliga, and Danny Williams and Fabian Johnson started for Hoffenheim in a 3-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund. With Dortmund already up three, Johnson pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute. He subbed off in the 77th.
Mexico, and DaMarcus Beasley scored the only goal of the game in Puebla's 1-0 win against Jaguares. Beasley's goal came just three minutes in, with Alejandro Alvarez picking up the shutout. Beasley subbed out in the 79th minute. Jose Francisco Torres went the distance in Pachuca's 1-1 draw with Queretaro. Pachuca played a man down from the 55th minute. Michael Orozco got the start for San Luis, losing 3-1 to Club America. San Luis led from a 4th minute goal, but Club America was level five minutes later and ahead by the 27th. Edgar Castillo and Tijuana lost 3-1 to Santos Laguna. Tijuana equalized in the 55th minute from the penalty spot, but Santos Laguna scored in the 64th and 86th minutes for the win.
