National Teamers Abroad: Altidore Scores

az alkmaar logoJozy Altidore was the US National Team player on the score sheet over the weekend, putting the ball in the back of the net with a tremendous equalizer in the 24th minute.  Unfortunately for AZ, they ended up losing 3-2 to PSV Eindhoven.  PSV got a stoppage time goal to take all three points, with AZ now trailing leaders Ajax by six goals in the Eredivisie. 

FA Cup semifinals, and Tim Howard's Everton lost 2-1 to Liverpool. Eric Lichaj was on the field for Aston Villa, who were shutout 4-0 by Manchester United.  A league down, Leeds United's Robbie Rogers subbed out in the 12th minute of a 4-1 win over Peterborough United with an ankle injury.  Billy Paynter and Ross McCormack each had two goals for Leeds.  In League One, Frank Simek took his usual place in Carlisle's starting eleven, losing 1-0 to Charlton. 

In the Bundesliga, Jermaine Jones and Schalke lost 2-1 to league leaders Borussia Dortmund.  Jefferson Farfan put Schalke up in the 9th minute, but Dortmund scored in the 16th and 62nd. Jones was yellow carded in the 83rd minute.  Timmy Chandler and Nurnberg beat Kaiserslautern 2-0.  Daniel Didavi opened the scoring in the 43rd with Tomas Pekhart getting a goal in the 73rd.  Chandler was yellow carded in the 33rd minute.  Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams both started for Hoffenheim in a scoreless draw with Freiburg.  Steve Cherundolo and Hanover were shutout 1-0 by Hamburg. 

Sacha Kljestan played the first-half for Anderlecht, losing 3-1 to Racing Genk and failing to convert a late penalty.  Anderlecht still lead the Jupiler League playoff table. 

In Mexico's Primera Division, DaMarcus Beasley subbed out in the 72nd minute for Puebla, drawing 1-1 with U.A.G.  Puebla led from the 6th minute when Lucas Silva scored, but U.A.G. equalized three minutes from time.  In the other Friday night game, Edgar Castillo started for Tijuana in a scoreless draw with Chiapas.  Michael Orozco and San Luis drew 2-2 with Queretaro.  San Luis led twice in the game.  Jose Francisco Torres and Pachuca lost 2-1 to Morelia.  Marco Bueno equalized for Pachuca in the 71st, but Morelia scored their winner six minutes later. Torres was yellow carded in the 16th minute.
