Tough news for National Teamers Abroad fans, as the back and forth on the final day of the Premier League season meant Bolton ended up relegated after drawing 2-2 with Stoke City. For stretches during the game, it looked as if Bolton would be safe with Queens Park Rangers making the drop. Instead, Bolton's 2-1 lead over Stoke evaporated and even QPR giving up two stoppage time goals in a 3-2 loss at Manchester City that crowned City Premier League champions made no difference for Bolton. Tim Ream got the start, with Stoke taking the lead in the 12th minute. Bolton equalized in the 39th and went ahead in the 45th, but Stoke equalized in the 77th from the penalty spot.
"Today, I felt that we did enough to win the game after the slow start we made," Bolton manager Owen Coyle said. "For the first goal, Jonathan Walters headed the ball after Adam Bogdan had clearly got hold of it, but the goal was inexplicably given. We picked ourselves up, got 2-1 in front and had the chances to score the third goal which would have really put the game to bed."
Eric Lichaj started for Aston Villa in a 2-0 loss to Norwich City. Villa finish 16th. Tim Howard was in goal for Everton, beating Newcastle 3-1 in a game where Everton were responsible for all of the goals. Steven Pienaar opened the scoring in the 16th minute with Nikica Jelavic making it 2-0 in the 27th. John Heitinga's goal had Everton up three in the 65th. A 73rd minute own goal finished off the scoring. An altercation saw Everton's Tim Cahill sent off after the game was over. Everton finish 7th, ahead of Liverpool. Brad Friedel got the start for Spurs in a 2-0 shutout of Fulham. Spurs finish 4th to Fulham's 9th.
In Scotland, Maurice Edu and Alejandro Bedoya got the start for Rangers on the final day of the Premier League season, beating St Johnstone 4-0. Edu assisted on Leo McCullock's 24th minute opener and the first goal of Sone Aluko's hat-trick in the 57th. Bedoya was yellow carded in the 48th minute and had an assist of his own in the 63rd. Rangers finish 2nd. Serie A, and Michael Bradley started for Chievo in their 1-0 season ending win over Lecce. Kamil Vacek scored the game's only goal in the 78th minute. Chievo finish 10th.
Denmark, and Clarence Goodson and Brondby lost 5-1 to Aarhus. In Norway, Ricardo Clark's Stabaek were shutout 5-0 by Molde.
