Jonathan Spector started and played 44 minutes for Birmingham City in a 2-2 draw on the night and a 3-2 aggregate loss to Blackpool in the Championship promotion playoffs. Spector subbed out with an injured thigh. Birmingham trailed by two goals on the night with Blackpool scoring in the 45th and 48th minutes. Birmingham's Nikola Zigic pulled a goal back in he 64th minute and Curtis Davies scored in the 73rd, but Birmingham couldn't come up with a third goal. Blackpool advance to play West Ham United for the final spot in the Premier League.
"To come back from two goals down at St. Andrew's with the crowd behind us and be pushing to get that third goal makes me feel as proud of these guys as I have all season," Birmingham manager Chris Hughton said. "Over the two legs Blackpool were the better team, but we showed something that we have done all season, which is a lot of character."
