Toronto FC shutout Montreal on Wednesday night in front of 14,412 at Saputo Stadium. Torsten Frings opened the scoring in the 52nd minute. Ryan Johnson made it 2-0 in the 72nd and Danny Koevermans finished off the scoring six minutes later. Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic needed two saves for the clean sheet.
“We defended as a team,” Koevermans said. “For the defense and the goalkeeper, it’s massive to get the clean sheet. I feel great about it.”
Montreal’s new signing Marco Di Vaio made his debut for the club, playing 55 minutes. Di Vaio joined the club after seeing out his contract with Bologna in Serie A.
