The Fourth of July games presented more questions than answers on Wednesday. Sporting KC got a 3-1 win over Montreal at Saputo Stadium. Patrice Bernier opened the scoring for the home side in the 49th minute, but that was it for the Impact offense. Kansas City equalized through Kei Kamara in the 57th and went ahead from a Graham Zusi goal in the 75th minute. Jacob Peterson finished off the scoring in the 82nd.
“I think tonight we had some issues in the first half, but in the second half we made the change, Sporting coach Peter Vermes said. “Even though they scored, our mentality was right. And because of the changes we made, we added the three goals.”
Dallas – Toronto finished 1-1 at FC Dallas Stadium. Dallas took the lead in the 5th minute from a Zach Loyd goal. Toronto was level when Danny Koevermans scored in the 31st. Vancouver beat Colorado 1-0 at Dicks Sporting Goods Park from a Darren Mattocks goal in the 43rd minute. Real Salt Lake – Seattle ended scoreless.
In the late game, LA lost to Philadelphia 2-1. Jack McInerney opened the scoring in the 46th minute for the Union, with Chad Barrett equalizing for the Galaxy in the 73rd. Michael Farfan scored the winner five minutes into stoppage time. Omar Gonzalez made his 2012 debut for the Galaxy, playing the first-half.
“I felt really good,” Gonzalez said. “I was really happy to get out there. I was pretty nervous the whole day, but once the ref blew the whistle I was ready to go and I felt comfortable.”
