Tim Howard needed four saves to shutout Manchester United, with Everton opening their 2012-13 Premier League season with a win at Goodison Park. Marouane Fellaini scored the game's only goal in the 57th minute. Everton outshot United 18 to 14, putting seven shots on frame to United's four.
"You can't take anything away from how Everton played tonight or how the team performed and how we defended when we had to," manager David Moyes said "If you turned off for a minute the combinations they've got up front and the way they play around the edge of the box, they're very, very good at it."
