Herculez Gomez got the start and played 72 minutes for Santos Laguna in their 4-0 shutout of Aguila in CONCACAF Champions League Group 1. All of Santos's goals came in the second-half at the Estadio Cuscatlan in El Salvador. Jesus Escobaza opened the scoring in the 48th minute, with Aaron Galindo doubling the lead in the 55th. Escobaza scored again in the 61st, with Marc Crosas successfully converting a penalty in the 76th minute. Aguila took two shots without putting the ball on frame.
On a night when Marathon had the advantage in shots and shots on goal, Seattle came away with the 3-2 win in Honduras. Samuel Ochoa opened the scoring in the 11th minute with Marathon equalizing from the penalty spot in the 34th. Eddie Johnson had Seattle back in front in the 61st, but Marathon equalized from a second penalty six minutes later. Brad Evans scored the Sounders' winner in the 77th minute.
In Puerto Rico, the Islanders and the Los Angeles Galaxy played out a scoreless draw in Group 5. Landon Donovan played most of the second-half, the only Galaxy designated player to make the trip.
