Too bad all those goals at AZ are not translating to goals for the USMNT.

Completely agree with you JT!!! After doing what amounted to a whole lot of nothing after leaving MLS for Europe, I started to wonder if Altidore’s move to Europe was the right one. Perhaps Altidore and AZ are a perfect match given how he has absolutely oozed goal after goal in the Eredivisie. I just don’t understand why at least some of this output or even strong performances with AZ have not at all carried over into the USMNT. I’ve watched Altidore with AZ quite a few times and I just don’t get it. He’s almost like a completely different players, hungrier even. I know so much can be debated about quality of service between AZ and USMNT or the roles he plays, but still. Domestically, he’s been at the top of his game, but as soon as Altidore steps on the field for the US, he just fades into the match with long stretches where he does next to nothing. I realize some of that has to do with Altidore being asked to serve as the lone forward during much of his international tenure, but still. If he ever realizes how much of an advantage his size can be at the international level, things may change. Sadly, I’ve spent the last several years repeating that mantra to myself while watching Altidore with the USMNT and I’m starting to wonder if its finally time to stop beating this dead horse.

Jozy altidore is doing work in the Dutch league. He’s a target man. Jk doesnt know how to use his talents. He doesn’t get the service he gets with psv on the usmnt. This is Maybe due to lack of wingers who can deliver crosses/good service.

  4. Jj says:

Jozy is scoring because he’s playing in the dutch league. Luis Suarez was a monster with ajax, he had an amazing goal to game ratio. He was top scorer for his team as well as in the league. Then he moved to liverpool and his goal production went down. This just shows how poor the defending is in that league. And how less competitive it is.

Anyways the Dutch league is great for young players to get experience/confidence and later move on to greater clubs. Hope he can help the usmnt in the future. He’s only 22 so yeah.
