A big result for the US players at Hoffenheim was a disappointment for Steve Cherundolo and Hannover 96. Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams scored in Hoffenheim's 3-1 win on Sunday at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena. A Hoffenheim own goal put Hannover up in the 26th minute, but Johnson equalized a minute later. Sejad Salihovic scored in the 82nd and Williams got Hoffenheim's third goal in stoppage time.

Also in Germany, Timmy Chandler's Nurnberg lost 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt. Chandler had subbed off in the 70th minute with his club down two goals. Sebastian Polter, who subbed on in place of Chandler, would score six minutes later. Jermaine Jones and Schalke 04 were shutout 2-0 by Bayern Munich.
In the Premier League, Tim Howard had a strong game for Everton shutting out Swansea 3-0. Things didn't go as well for Brad Guzan and Eric Lichaj, with Aston Villa losing 4-1 to Southampton. Villa led from the 36th minute when Darren Bent scored, but Southampton equalized in the 58th and scored three more second-half goals. Lichaj subbed out in the 68th minute and was yellow carded in the 53rd. Geoff Camer0n got the start for Stoke in their 1-0 loss to Chelsea. Brad Friedel and Clint Dempsey started for Spurs, beating QPR 2-1. QPR led from the 33rd minute but brought Spurs level with a 59th minute own goal. Jermaine Defoe scored Tottenham's winner two minutes later. Dempsey subbed off in the 88th minute.
Jonathan Spector's Birmingham City were on the wrong side of a 5-0 result, losing to Barnsley. In League One, Frank Simek and Carlisle beat Coventry 2-1.
Jozy Altidore and AZ lost 2-1 to NAC Breda. AZ led from the 35th minute when Adam Maher scored, but two second-half goals were the difference. Sacha Kljestan was a late sub in Anderlecht's 3-2 win over Sulte-Waregem. Carlos Bocanegra made his debut as a member of Racing de Santander, shutting out Mirandes 1-0. Michael Parkhurst's Nordsjaelland finished 1-1 against Randers. Clarence Goodson and Brondby drew 1-1 with Midtjylland. Brondby took the lead from the penalty spot in the 26th minute with Midtjylland equalizing in the 67th. Goodson was sent off in stoppage time. Norway, and Mix Diskerud and Rosenborg were beaten 2-1 by Brann.
Liga MX, and DaMarcus Beasley and Puebla finished 1-1 against Lyon. Beasley assisted on Matias Abelairas's 67th minute equalizer. Jose Torres subbed out in the 69th minute with Pachuca shutout 1-0 by Michael Orozco's San Luis. Orozco subbed on in the 83rd minute. Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona's Tijuana drew 1-1 with Atlas. Corona subbed out in the 70th minute.
