DC United Win the 2013 US Open Cup

DC United shutout Real Salt Lake 1-0 to take the 2013 US Open Cup and a qualifying spot in the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League. Lewis Neal was the difference, scoring in the 45th minute for DC's third US Open Cup trophy. DC beat their USL affiliate Richmond in the Third Round, starting a run that included wins against MLS teams Philadelphia, New England, Chicago, and RSL.

“I’m so happy for the fans and the players and the organization for hanging in there," DC United coach Ben Olsen said. "I think that we’ve done a good job this year of sticking together. The wheels never fell off and there were a lot of times when they could’ve when you go through this much turmoil within the league. It’s tough to stay together but they did that. The fans didn’t turn us off, and the organization supported us. And now we’ve found a way to get something positive out of a really tough season.”
