USMNT Players Abroad: Aston Villa beat Chelsea, assist for Johnson

USMNT goalkeeper Brad Guzan and Aston Villa came up with a huge win on Saturday. Aston Villa beat Premier League leaders Chelsea in a shock result. In the Bundesliga, USMNT midfielder Fabian Johnson assisted on a goal in Hoffenheim's 4-2 loss to Mainz as we roundup the rest of the USMNT players abroad scores.

We start in the Premier League, where Brad Guzan needed two saves to keep an unlikely clean sheet in Aston Villa's 1-0 shutout of Chelsea. Fabian Delph scored the game's only goal in the 82nd minute at Villa Park. Chelsea went a man down when the referee sent off Willian in the 25th minute. They would finish with 9-men with a stoppage time red card to Ramires. The referee also sent off manager Jose Mourinho. Chelsea remain at the top of the table, four points ahead of Liverpool who beat Manchester United on Sunday. Aston Villa are 10th, tied on points with 11th-place Stoke City.

"They are vying to win the Barclays Premier League and they're vying to win the Champions League," Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert said of Chelsea. "Their team has cost millions to build while we've only been here less than two seasons. Our own team were brilliant, really good. We were fantastic to a man. Every one of them. They are a young group who were brilliant. All the lads were terrific. I don't think it's fair to single out an individual. It was a massive team performance."

USMNT defender Geoff Cameron and Stoke City came back to beat West Ham United 3-1 at the Britannia Stadium. West Ham opened the scoring in the 5th minute with Peter Odemwingie equalizing for Stoke City in the 31nd minute. Stoke City took the lead when Marko Arnautovic scored in the 69th minute. Odemwingie scored again in the 79th minute. Stoke are 11th in the Premier League, tied on points with 11th-place Aston Villa.

The USMNT's starting goalkeeper Tim Howard picked up a 2-1 win with Everton Beating Cardiff City at Goodison Park. Gerard Deulofeu put Everton up in the 59th minute with Swansea equalizing in the 68th. Seamus Coleman scored Everton's winner three minutes into stoppage time. Howard made two saves in the win. On Sunday, he provided color commentary for the US broadcast of the Manchester United - Liverpool game.

Jozy Altidore played the second-half for Sunderland's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light.

A league down, Oguchi Onyewu and Sheffield Wednesday beat fellow USMNT defender Jonathan Spector's Birmingham City 4-1. Sheffield Wednesday's Caolan Lavery opened the scoring in the 16th minute at Hillsborough with Leon Best doubling the lead five minutes later. An own-goal made it 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday in the 58th minute and Lavery scored again in the 68th. Lee Novak spoiled Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Damien Martinez's shutout with an 81st minute goal. The referee booked Spector in the 65th minute. Sheffield Wednesday are 16th in the Championship table, three spots ahead of Birmingham City.

Brighton shutout Tim Ream's Bolton Wanderers 2-0 at the Reebok Stadium. Brighton's Will Buckley scored in the 13th and 65th minutes.

In the Bundesliga, USMNT midfielder Fabian Johnson assisted on Roberto Firmino's goal to give Hoffenheim a 2-0 lead over Mainz in the 52nd minute. The Firmino goal came three minutes after Eugen Polanski opened the scoring for Hoffenheim at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena. Unfortunately for the home team, the lead wouldn't last. Mainz scored in the 67th and equalized in the 73rd. Two minutes later, Mainz were ahead for good with Shinji Okazaki scoring in the 75th and 92nd minutes.

Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht shutout Oostende 4-0 in Belgium's Pro League. Anderlecht opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 9th minute with Andy Najar doubling the lead in the 28th. Aleksander Mitrovi added to his penalty, scoring again in the 77th minute. Olivier Deschacht scored in the 83rd minute. Terrence Boyd's Rapid Vienna shutout Ried 1-0 in Austria's Bundesliga. Marcel Sabitzer scored in the 75th minute.

In Holland's Eredivisie, Juan Agudelo and FC Utrecht drew 2-2 with NEC. Utrecht took the lead in the 22nd minute with Davy Bulthuis scored, but gave up the equalizer two minutes later. Jens Toornstra put Utrecht ahead in the 44th, but NEC equalized in the 60th minute. The referee booked Agudelo in stoppage time. Aron Johannsson and AZ lost 2-1 on the road to Twente. AZ's Steven Berghuis opened the scoring in the 40th minute. Twente equalized in the 69th and scored their winner three minutes into stoppage time.

DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco's Publa lost 1-0 to Jose Torres's Tigres in Mexico's Liga MX. Damian Alvarez scored the game's only goal in the 82nd minute. Edgar Castillo and Herculez Gomez's Tijuana lost 2-1 to Cruz Azul at Estadio Azul. Richard Ruiz opened the scoring for Tijuana in the 45th minute in Mexico City. Marco Fabian equalized for Cruz Azul in the 47th and scored their winner in the 69th minute. Gomez subbed out in the 64th minute. Cruz Azul has a three-point lead at the top of the Liga MX table. Tijuana is 12th.
