
WASHINGTON, DC (May 17, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- The German season came to an end this weekend with none of the Americans in Bundesliga 2 winning promotion. Brayn Arguez's FSV Mainz finished fourth, two points behind FC Koln who move up to the Bundesliga along with TSG Hoffenheim and champions Borussia Moenchengladbach. Heath Pearce's Hansa Rostock lost to Bayern Munich and were relegated.
GERMANY
Bundesliga
Hannover 4 - Energie Cottbus 0
Hannover finish the season in 8th, with Steve Cherundolo assisting on three of the four Hannover goals in the 45th, 60th, and 90th minutes. Sal Zizzo was a second-half substitute, getting shown yellow in the 71st.
Bayern Munich 3 - Hansa Rostock 0
Needing a win for a shot at avoiding relegation, instead Hansa Rostock got to watch Bayern Munich celebrate their title. Heath Pearce got the start for Rostock.
Preston Zimmerman wasn’t in the squad for Hamburg's 7-0 win over Karlsruhe, finishing 4th. Kamani Hill missed VfL Wolfsburg's 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund, finishing 5th on goal differential behind Hamburg. Brian Arguez missed Hertha Berlin's 1-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, with Hertha finishing 10th.
Bundesliga 2
FC Erzgebirge Aue 1 - 1860 Munich 1
Gregg Berhalter got the start and picked up a yellow card, with Munich finishing the season with a 90th minute goal to get a draw against the already relegated Erzgebirge. Josh Wolff was on the bench for 1860 Munich, who finish 11th.
FSV Mainz 5 - St Pauli 1
Neven Subotic started for Mainz, who got the points they needed but so did the teams they were looking towards for help for a last day climb up the table. Hoffenheim and Koln finish two points higher and take the promotion slots along with champions Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Joey Enochs wasn't in the squad for VfL Osnabruck's 3-0 win over Kickers Offenbach, to finish 12th. Josh Grenier was on the bench for Koblenz's 3-1 win over Alemania Aachen. Koblenz finishes 8th.
FRANCE
Ligue 1
Andrew Jacobson's FC Lorient ended the season with a 1-1 draw with Lille. Jacobson continues his recovery from an injured foot. Lorient finishes the season in 10th.
ITALY
Serie B
Rimini 2 - Brescia 1
Danny Szetela started for Brescia, who are now guaranteed a playoff spot for the third promotion place. Pay attention to this one. In Serie B, the third place team has to finish the season with a ten point lead over the fourth-place team to be promoted automatically. If not, and it’s not, the third through 6th teams playoff against each other for promotion. With two games left in the season, Brescia will finish no lower than 6th and no higher than their current 5th.
Did Not Play: DaMarcus Beasley wasn't in the squad for Rangers' 1-1 draw with Motherwell.
