WASHINGTON, DC (May 12, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- It's Monday, so we get an announcement about an announcement and a mad rush to rewrite a press release.
Hello Bolivar
Nothing says Major League Soccer like a strategic partnership with a foreign club. What, you thought DC would be announcing a new hookup with Columbus? Enter Bolivian giants Bolivar, with an announcement set for tomorrow.
Until then, here's a factoid from our favorite club named after a South American revolutionary leader. El Club Bolívar do the big game switch ala the Earthquakes, playing mundane league games at the 25k Estadio Libertador Simón Bolivar, but switching to the 42k Estadio Hernando Siles for the big events.
Yes, that would be the stadium FIFA lets violate their 3000 meters or higher altitude ban. For those keeping score at home, it's 3,637 meters. The Strongest also use it for big games, with La Paz FC pulling a Scottish Queens Park Rangers and using it full time even though they're the smaller draw of the three.
Code National Team Release!
The lucky MLS club media relations personnel got to spend their afternoon reworking the Under-23 Toulon squad announcement so they could send out their own version highlighting their club's players.
Keep in mind, we're with the MLS media people here. It's the general media's fault if they're too busy to: 1) get added to the Fed's media list, and 2) check a roster announcement to see if it has added meaning in their market. That MLS teams can't trust their local markets to make either of those moves is in an indicator.
Let's be honest here, do we really think that everybody on a local media list is currently working through the same mild bemusement that is necessary? Just saying.
