WASHINGTON, DC (Jun 16, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- Chicago dropped another game over the weekend, making us wonder quite aloud what is happening with one of the better teams in Major League Soccer. Also, FC Dallas confirms the obvious.
Vacation Over
Apparently former Southern Methodist University coach Schellas Hyndman is back from vacation, meaning he's now in charge of FC Dallas. No quotes with the press release. Those wait for tomorrow.
Chi-Town Lack Of Hustle
For those of you that think it' a bit presumptive to be considering the standings before August, look away now. A few weeks ago, the Chicago Fire were a consensus choice for team with the best form in MLS. Now, minus the injuries and National Team duty hurting other cubs, they're 4th in the East a point behind Toronto.
Granted, that's with a game less than any of the teams in front of them. At the same time, Chicago was supposed to be the class of the East waiting on Brian McBride to somehow end up on their roster and waltz away with the MLS Cup.
Instead, they're dropping games to Houston, DC and now Dallas without the benefit of the easy excuse. Just something to keep in mind when they play Chivas USA on Thursday night.*
All About The Hustle
Our All-Star game has a halftime show, and we'll just move right along to the press release quote.
“Estelle is an excellent representation of the kind of artist that is ideal for a Major League Soccer special event,” said Geoff Hayes, vice president of special events for Major League Soccer. “Her chart-topping tracks in Europe, combined with her rising star status in North America, amount to an exciting entertainment buzz and incremental attention for this year’s Pepsi MLS All-Star game.”
In other news, Bill Hicks remains dead.
*An earlier version of this story had Chicago playing San Jose. The Earthquakes get the Wednesday game this week.
