WASHINGTON, DC (July 7, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- Michael Bradley is the latest American linked with a Ligue 1 club, this time with AS Monaco reportedly willing to pay over $9 million in transfer fee money.
In a move that speaks directly to the kind of European transfer window frenzy we know and love, Monaco has also linked itself to Freddy Adu. Current speculation would have that as a loan deal, with an Adu transfer rumored to be significant.
Carlos Bocanegra already moved to Ligue 1 club Rennes. Last season, Andrew Jacobson at FC Lorient and Quentin Westberg at Troyes were the only American playing in France's topflight.
Pablo Mastroeni has also linked himself overseas, telling the Colorado Springs Gazette's David Ramsey he will be seeing out his MLS contract and looking for European offers during the January transfer window. "My mind is made up," Mastroeni said. "I'm ready to go." Mastroeni also criticized the lack of game-to-game pressure in MLS, and is targeting Spain or Italy.
