WASHINGTON, DC (July 29, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- Real Salt Lake gets another week in first place after beating Toronto 2-1 at home on Monday night. They also get the knowledge that they can avoid splitting the points late against good teams.
"To give away a goal like (we) did late in the game, and to react the way they did just makes me incredibly proud to be leading this group, but also to feel like I am part of this group," Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis said.
Jamison Olave opened the scoring for RSL in the 63rd, wit Toronto's Amado Guevara pulling FC even in the 84th. Salt Lake responded, with Robbie Findley hitting the winner four minutes later.
"We've been in that position before and we told ourselves, 'When it happens again we're going to know what to do,'" Findley said. "That's what good teams do. Good teams that gel know how to pick themselves up out of games like that."
Real Salt Lake leads the Western Conference by four points on 19 games played. Houston is in second with 23 points from 17 games. Toronto is one of four Eastern Conference teams separated by goal differential at 22 points in a group that runs from fourth place to last.
"I don't know how we can defend like Trojans at home," Toronto coach John Carver said. "Maybe it's because we've got 20,000 screaming fans down your throat, and if you make a mistake they'll let you know about it. But there's something not right when we are away from home. You claw your way back into the game ... and you come away with nothing."
