WASHINGTON, DC (Oct 8, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- Houston became the first Major League Soccer club to win a CONCACAF Champions League group stage game on Tuesday night, beating San Francisco 2-1 at Robertson Stadium. Houston took a 13th minute lead through Chris Wondolowski that held until two minutes into the second half when San Francisco equalized through Temistocles Perez. Dwayne De Rosario came on in the 78th minute, and got the winner ten minutes later.
Houston put more shots on goal (seven) than San Francisco took (six). The San Francisco offense was dominated by Temistocles Perez, a strategy that almost got them a point.
Instead, Houston move into second with five points from three games, trailing UNAM Pumas on goal differential.
Also on Tuesday, Cruz Azul and Marathon drew 1-1 in Group A, leaving them tied on points and differential at the top of Group A. DC United plays Saprissa in Group A on Thursday.
