WASHINGTON, DC (Oct 10, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- With a lineup that would be tough to recognize for most Major League Soccer fans, DC United went on the road on Thursday and got their first point in CONCACAF Champions League play. The 2-2 draw with Saprissa in Costa Rica leaves DC last in Group A, but it also prevented Saprissa from taking over top of the group on points. Instead, Saprissa trails Cruz Azul and group leaders Marathon on goal differential with seven points from four games.
Francis Doe gave DC the lead in the 6th minute, and that held until the 80th when Cesar Elizondo equalized for Saprissa. Five minutes later, it was 2-1 Saprissa, again courtesy of Elizonda. Two minutes into injury time, Rod Dyachenko got DC their first point of the group stage.
Elsewhere, Firpo drew 1-1 with UNAM Pumas in Group B. UNAM Pumas lead the group with six points from four games, but Houston in second with five points and Firpo in third with four points have yet to play their fourth game.
