WASHINGTON, DC (Oct 31, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- Red Bull NY will be without midfielder Seth Stammler when they open their playoff series with Houston on Saturday (4pm - Direct Kick). Stammler required surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee, an injury RBNY had been trying to treat while Stammler continued to play.
Stammler has been a regular in the RBNY midfield, playing with the knee injury since August.
“Since Seth’s injury, we have tried to manage it on a day-to-day basis,” Red Bulls sporting director Jeff Agoos said. "However, the pain became unmanageable and the decision from our medical staff was to immediately perform surgery."
Stammler is expected to be back forthe start of the 2009 season, with recovery normally taking two to four months.
