In the all-Mexico CONCACAF Champions League final, Atlante beat Cruz Azul on Wednesday 2-0 at Cruz Azul's Estadio Azul. Fernando Navarro scored in the 17th and Christian Bermudz got the second in the 24th minute. Rafael Marquez Lugo assisted on both goals. Atlante goes into next Wednesday's second leg at their Estadio Quintana Roo with the away goal tie-breaker in hand. "We can not underestimate their potential," Atlante coach Jose Cruz said. "We took this tournament very seriously and we are demonstrating it with results."
With both teams missing players for the first leg due to card accumulation, Atlante lost defender Miguel Martinez for next week's game when he was yellow carded.
