In two games across two competitions on Wednesday, Chivas USA had their undefeated streak broken and FC Dallas exits the US Open Cup.
Toronto FC 1 - Chivas USA 0
First place in the Western Conference didn't hold up in Toronto on Wednesday, with Amado Guevara's goal in the 36th minute the only one of the game. Stefan Frei gets the shutout for Toronto, who move to third in the Eastern Conference. "To play as well was fantastic and you have to take your hat off to the lads," Toronto coach John Carver said. "You know they take stick at times but I have to say tonight they bounced back and I thought they thoroughly deserved the victory today." The loss is the first of the season for Chivas USA, who had three shots and only one on goal. Toronto had six shots with three on goal, and dominated corners seven to one.
US Open Cup Play-In
Dallas 0 - DC United 2
DC United advances in the MLS Play-In portion of the US Open Cup, beating Dallas 2-0 at RFK stadium. With both teams changing up their roster for the Open Cup, Fred put DC ahead in the 21st minute and Brandon Barklage closed out the scoring in the 66th. Milos Kocic gets the shutout for DC. Dallas changed six players from their last MLS game, and had to adjust again when George John needed to be subbed out with a strained hamstring eight minutes in. "I’ve said from the beginning that we have a deep team," DC United coach Tommy Soehn said. "It was fun to get them on the field and let them show what they’re about and their character, their quality, and why we brought some of them here."
