In hot conditions in London and Glasgow, it ended up being only Tim Howard making the squad for a Cup Final. In Scotland, Maruice Edu's injury cost him his normal place in Rangers' starting eleven and DaMarcus Beasley wasn't included in the squad.
England FA Cup Final
Chelsea 2 - Everton 1
With field temperatures getting to 105 degrees, Louis Saha put Everton up a goal twenty-five seconds into Saturday's FA Cup Final against Chelsea, but it wasn't the day for Tim Howard and his Everton teammates. Chelsea equalized in the 21st minute when Didier Drogba headed in a Florent Malouda cross. Chelsea had already started pushing their attack and limiting Everton opportunities, and that paid off again when Frank Lampard scored from the top of the arc in the 72nd just beating Howard. Chelsea's Florent Malouda had a shot from way out hit the underside of the bar in the 78th that was ruled to not have crossed the goal line. On replay, it clearly crossed the line.
Scottish Cup Final
Rangers 1 - Falkirk 0
Maurice Edu didn't recover from his leg injury picked up in last Sunday's season-ender in time to make the squad for Rangers. DaMarcus Beasley also wasn't on the squad list as temperatures at Hampden Park settled around 104 degrees. Barry Ferguson and Lee McCulloch returned to the Rangers lineup, but the squad changes and the heat combined to stifle their attack. Opportunity for Falkirk, who dominated possession in the first half but couldn't get a goal. Rangers took advantage at the start of the second, when substitute Nacho Novo got the only goal of the game from thirty-yards out. Falkirk thought they had a late equalizer from substitute Michael Higdon minutes after he came on, but it was ruled offside. Falkirk's Steve Lovell hit the post a few minutes later.
