United States National Team defender Danny Califf just finished up his club season with FC Midtjylland in the Danish SAS-Ligaen. Midtjylland finished fourth in the twelve-team league, his first season with the club but third in the SAS-Ligaen after spending two seasons with Aalborg. Danny joins us from the US National Team preparations for Wednesday's Qualifier in Costa Rica to answer some personal questions and teach us a bit of what he calls Danglish. Because after all, you never know when you might need to make your case to a Danish referee.
Favorite city
Of the places I go regularly for soccer I would say Chicago. I love the city. It is more manageable than New York, has a great downtown, food, nightlife, and it has a more laid back attitude than NY.
But my Favorite place in Kauai. My top vacation spot and I would like to live there when I am done playing. I love the lifestyle, and the surf and I can't get enough!
Best memory from rookie season
It is a bit of a blur, but I just am so lucky I got to play in LA (my home), in front of my family, and after a bit actually become a regular in the starting lineup. I also got to play with some great veteran players like: Greg Vanney, Cobi Jones, Robin Fraser, Danny Pena, Ezra Hendrickson, Kevin Hartman, and Matt Reis.
Favorite sports team growing up
I followed local teams a bit but I really only payed attention so I would have things to talk about with buddies.
Three favorite movies
I love movies but I can only watch a few over and over.
Shawshank Redemption
Last of The Mohicans
Snatch
Three favorite albums
Wow, that is hard. I can't really say. It depends on the mood. I have been into indy Hip Hop a lot lately. But I love Punk Rock, and Mellow surf tunes, as well as The Dead, and classic rock.
My wife loves country and so I listen to that quite a bit too. I love the story tellers like Johnny Cash, and Charlie Daniels.
Three things to do before I'm too old
I haven't really thought about it. I want to travel and go on surf trips. Indo, Australia, Mexico, and a vacation visit to Costa Rica.
Favorite athletes to watch
I like watching Messi: He is super humanly quick.
Kelly Slater: He can do it all and has great competitiveness.
Three things you don't know about me
I love to read. I am a pretty quiet and shy person. I love to travel, and always try and get out and see the cities and countries where I go. Get a taste of the local culture. Life experiences!
