With the interest pointing at the United States and their Confederations Cup final against Brazil, Major League Soccer played on with four games on the schedule. Seattle made the big statement for Week 15, scoring three goals in front of over 30 thousand fans. The LA Galaxy was right there with them, beating Houston in Sunday's late game.
Toronto 0 - Salt Lake 3
One has to wonder what player move Toronto FC will decide is the answer, after losing badly to Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Goals from Yura Movsisyan in the 21st, Kyle Beckerman in the 44th, and Clint Mathis in the 78th gave RSL the win. Toronto finished with only two shots on frame, with RSL keeper Nick Rimando picking up the shutout. “We had a go for 20 minutes, and we needed to score in that first 20 minutes," Toronto coach Chris Cummins said. "We held them, but after that they were the better team. They deserved the win. They scored at the right times. They kicked it into third and fourth gear, and we just didn’t have enough in us."
New York 0 - Columbus 1
Same story for Red Bull NY in Week 15, dropping another three points at the wrong end of the Eastern Conference. This time it was a corner kick and Guillermo Barros Schelotto finding goal in the 45th minute. Will Hesmer needed to make one save to pickup the shutout. "We try to do the same thing every time," Crew defender Frankie Hejduk said. "They are a dangerous team -- their record might not show it, but they have players that can score. We try to focus on their good players and try to shut them down."
Colorado 0 - Seattle 3
In front of 32,526 at Qwest Field, the Sounders pick up the big home win over a very good Colorado team. Fredy Montero scored in the 23rd and Nate Jaqua had goals in the 48th and 68th. Kasey Keller stopped Colin Clark's penalty attempt in the 33rd minute on his way to the shutout and Seattle stops Colorado's eight-game unbeaten run. “I think he got what he deserved and he didn’t score," Seattle defender Tyrone Marshall said about the penalty. "I think it was right for the play because I don’t think he deserved a penalty for that. So that play worked itself out."
Houston 0 - Los Angeles 1
The Galaxy turned a 24th minute Todd Dunivant goal into three points on Sunday night, in a game where neither team could ramp up the offense. "It's a great feeling to be able to help your team out that way, being a defender and score a goal gives the guys a lift and myself as well," Dunivant said.
