Tigres, Chicago, New England, and Santos advanced to the SuperLiga semifinals over the weekend. All teams were technically in contention on the final matchdays.
Chicago 1 - Tigres 2
The Chicago Fire couldn't get a point on Saturday, but it didn't matter. They're through to the SuperLiga semifinals on goal differential. Tigres advances as Group A winners with goals from Armando Pulido in the 37th and 61st minutes. Cuauhtemoc Blanco converted a penalty in the 85th minute to give the Fire the goal they needed to go through as Group A runners-up.
San Luis 1 - Chivas USA 1
A draw knocked both teams out of the SuperLiga. Alfredo Moreno put San Luis up in the 53rd and would have put them through at the Chicago Fire's expense. Instead, Chivas split the points with Atiba Harris's equalizer in the 88th minute.
Atlas 0 - New England 1
Kenny Mansally's 32nd minute goal put New England into the semifinals as Group A winners. Matt Reis absorbed a late push from the Atlas attack and needed six saves for the shutout. Atlas' Gerardo Espinoza was ejected in the 85th.
Santos 3 - Kansas City 1
Santos advanced as Group A runners-up at the expense of the home-standing Wizards on Sunday night. Agustin Herrera put Santos up in the 61st and Vincente Vuouso made it 2-0 in the 74th. Claudio Lopez gave the sellout crowd some hope when he scored from a freekick in the 80th minute, but it would be Santos picking up their third goal when Juan Pablo Rodriguez scored late into injury time. "We came out and tried to win the game," Wizards coach Curt Onalfo said. "Obviously, we fell behind and we kept pushing the game and went forward because we wanted to make sure we did that. However, sometimes you become vulnerable. You have to credit Santos for taking advantage of those situations. Having said that, we had plenty of chances to put the ball in the back of the net and hit a couple off the cross bar."
