For the second week in a row, three Women's Professional Soccer League games and three winners. This time around, it was with first choice rosters.
Saint Louis Athletica 0 - Los Angeles 2
The Sol went a goal up in the 35th when Camille Abily scored off an assist from Marta. Shannon Boxx doubled that lead in the 50th with service from Han Duan. Karina LeBlanc needed to make four saves for the shutout. "The energy was there and anytime I can get forward I’m happy," Boxx said.
FC Gold Pride 1 - Washington 3
Kristen Graczyk put Washington on the board in the 16th minute and Lisa De Vanna followed six minutes later. Cat Whitehill made it 3-0 in the 32nd. Christine Sinclair ruined Erin McLeod's clean sheet in the 57th minute. FC Gold Pride finished with ten players after Carrie Dew was sent off for her second yellow in the 83rd minute. Washington scored off of every shot they put on Nicole Barnhart's goal. “You can’t give anyone two goals in this league," FC Gold Pride coach Albertin Montoya said. "It’s very difficult to come back from that. I’m very proud of our team, they came out in the second half and played really well, created plenty of chances to get back in the game and scored a very good goal. It’s difficult when things aren’t going your way.”
Sky Blue FC 2 - Boston 1
Just days after a restructuring that saw their coach fired, Sky Blue shook off whatever issues they might have had and got a result against the Boston Breakers. Natasha Kai opened the scoring in the 4th minute, and Boston's Kelly Smith had the teams even by the 12th. Kacey White would get the winner in the 29th in front of 3493 in Piscataway, NJ. "Overall, we talked about defensively constantly being in a good cover positions for each other so we could transition easy into our attack," Sky Blue interim coach Kelly Lindsey said. "I thought our team did that across the board – forwards, midfielders and defenders. It makes it easy for the backs to get forward when your team is compact and winning the ball higher on the field."
