Chicago will host Tigres for the 2009 SuperLiga title after both teams advanced in semifinal play at Gillette Stadium.
Chicago 2 - New England 1
Credit Chicago for playing to their strengths. Cuauhtemoc Blanco found Brian McBride for the 34th minute opener, with the Revs pulling even when Edgaras Jankauskas' shot was deflected in just before halftime. Blanco would prove the difference, scoring directly from a freekick in the 63rd minute to give Chicago a place in the final. "A win's a win," Chicago keeper Jon Busch said. "Sometimes you win pretty, sometimes you win ugly. At the end of the day, we moved on. That's all that matters."
Tigres 3 - Santos 2
Tigres started strong and held on in the late game on Wednesday. Jesus Molina headed in a corner in the second minute and it was 2-0 Tigres when Jose Francesco Torres scored in the 18th. Santos pulled a goal back through Carlos Quintero in the 26th. Playing a man down after Lucas Lobos was sent off in the 69th minute, Itamar Batista put Tigres up 3-1 in the 82nd with the eventual winner. Francisco Torres would find goal in stoppage time for Santos' second goal. Lobos will miss the final at Toyota Park. "It's a shame, because I didn't really mean to grab the guy," he said. It was a bit of a sad moment, but I'm sure the team, the way it's playing, can go on and play well in the final."
