All three of the weekend games ended 1-0 in Women's Professional Soccer. With the idle Sol firmly in control of first-place, Boston moved into second, Saint Louis has third, and Sky Blue FC have the final slot with their win over Chicago.
Saint Louis 0 - Washington 1
Homare Sawa got the only goal of the game 74th minute, with Washington part of a WPS/MLS doubleheader at RFK Stadium. “I think for any team, besides LA, who are already in the finals, that’s all that matters," Freedom forward Lisa DeVanna said. "Points matter, goals matter, shutouts matter. All those things come down to the end. This is a very important game. This could decide whether we get into the playoffs, whether we get a home game."
Chicago 0 - Sky Blue 1
Sky Blue made a home stand for the playoffs, beating Chicago on a stoppage time goal from Kerri Hanks. "Losing is never easy, whether or it's a first-minute or last-minute goal," Red Stars coach Emma Hayes said. "Unfortunately we got a bit disorganized at the end since we were chasing a goal so hard; obviously both teams needed to win this game. I don't think that the team was good enough today in the attack, and we weren't able to create a great deal of chances. Sky Blue FC deserves credit for that."
Boston 1 - FC Gold Pride 0
The Breakers got a road win with a depleted squad courtesy of the Canada - USA friendly. Missing seven regulars, Kelly Schmedes got the only goal of the game in the 13th minute, with Allison Lipsher picking up the shutout. “We stress how important it is to go out there and get the first goal show some energy, excitement and desire to compete, and try to make things happen.” Gold Pride coach Albertin Montoya said. “I think we lacked that in the first half. In the second half we started to create chances, hit the post twice and started getting in behind the defense, we were pressing them." The win moves Boston into second place.
