Two games on Wednesday night, with Washington and Sky Blue FC needing eight goals to split the points in Piscataway to split the points. Meanwhile, Angela Hucles proved the difference in Cambridge.
Chicago 0 - Boston 1
Angela Hucles got the game's only goal in the 35th minute on a night when Chicago couldn't get their shots on goal. 21 taken, four on frame to Boston's 11 for five. "The ball, actually we were trying to get in there and the ball was cleared out and (Lilly) had previously tried to shoot one, so I called for it just to let her know we were trying to get in the box," Hucles said. "It was a great ball away from the goaltender and I just tried to stay away from the defenders to try and finish it, but it was a perfectly executed goal and I just finished it."
Washington 4 - Sky Blue FC 4
Needing points to make the playoffs, the Washington Freedom needed a late equalizer to get one. Sonia Bompastor gave the Freedom the lead in the 4th minute, but Sky Blue answered back through Natasha Kai. Kacey White put Sky Blue in the lead in the 27th. It was White again, scoring to start the second half. Washington's Lisa De Vanna got a goal back a minute later in the 47th, and had the score level by the 54th. Sky Blue thought they had a late winner when Natasha Kai scored again in the 86th, but Cat Whitehill equalized for the Freedom two minutes into stoppage time to split the points. "We scored four goals but we got four goals scored against us," Kai said. "I feel like all four of them were off our mistakes. It easily could have been 4-0 but the games over and we are walking away with one point." Sky Blue currently holds the final playoff slot, two points ahead of Washington. Under WPS rules, ties in the standings go to head-to-head record and then head-to-head goal differential before overall goal differential.
