With four playoff slots and less than four weeks left in the regular season, teams are starting to feel the pressure. In Boston, Sky Blue got the away win to push them into a tie with the Breakers in third. A big win for Chicago puts them fourth, but fifth in the playoff hunt.
Sky Blue FC 2 - Boston 1
Home field wasn't enough for Boston on Sunday, who ended up ruining Jenni Branam's shutout in stoppage time. Sky Blue took the lead in the 24th minute through Natasha Kai and doubled that when Rosana scored in the 37th. “We came out strong with our first time playing on turf," Kai said. "We wanted to score early and stay composed. We knew the goals would come. We got one in the 24th or 25th minute. Two goals in the first. We knew they were going to come out hard in the second half. They got one in stoppage time, but we held off. That’s what it’s going to take to win games. We fought hard as a team and the people who came off the bench did a great job.” Jennifer Nobis got the Breakers' only goal in the 93rd minute.
FC Gold Pride 1 - Chicago 3
Chicago got the opener in the 31st through Christiane, who made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time. Gold Pride would pull a goal back when Tiffeny Milbrett scored in the 64th, but Christiane was back on the score sheet a minute later to finish off her hat-trick, a first for WPS. “I think for me, I’m very happy to score three goals because they are three important goals for my team," Christiane said. "We needed this, so I’m going to continue to look for this in the next game.”
