No problems for Tim Howard in goal for Everton, 4-0 winners over Hull City in England's League Cup. Ayegbeni Yakubu opened the scoring in the 11th, with Jo doubling the lead in the 20th and Dan Gosling making it 3-0 in the 24th. Leon Osman finished off the scoring in the 57th minute. Jozy Altidore wasn't in the squad for Hull.
Brad Guzan was in goal for Aston Villa, 1-0 winners over Cardiff City. Gabriel Agbonlahor had the game's only goal in the third minute. James Milner missed a penalty for Villa in the 59th. "I am just pleased to have won the game," Villa manager Martin O'Neill said. "I thought Cardiff were never out of it. They played some really nice football too. But I thought we seemed to be in reasonable control of the game." Brad Friedel was on the bench for Aston Villa.
Manchester United went a man down in the 30th minute when Fabio da Silva was sent off, but Marcus Hahnemann and Wolves couldn't take advantage and gave up the short-handed goal to lose 1-0. Hahnemann had six saves on the night, but Danny Wilbeck got the game's only goal in the 66th. "I think it's a missed opportunity," Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said. "We put them under pressure but when we got the opportunity to play I don't think we had that bit of belief or devilment to crack a tough nut. "It's not just about having the ball, it's what you do with it."Fulham lost 2-1 to Manchester City, with Eddie Johnson starting and going the full ninety before being subbed out at the start of overtime. Zoltan Gera gave Fulham the lead in the 34th, with Gareth Barry equalizing for City in the 52nd. Kolo Tour hit the winner in the 111th. Clint Dempsey wasn't in the squad for Fulham.
In the Danish Cup, Michael Parkhurst went the full ninety as Nordsjaelland beat AB Copenhagen 4-1. Marcus Tracey was an 80th-minute substitute for Aalborg, 3-0 winners over Thisted.

Luis Robles was on the bench for Kaiserslautern, 2-1 winners over Bayer Leverkusen. Oguchi Onyewu was on the bench for Milan's 1-0 loss to Udinese.
