Second Star: Brad Friedel also got the shutout, keeping Portsmouth out for Aston Villa's 2-0 win. James Milner converted a 34th minute penalty to give Villa the lead and Gabriel Agbonlahor finished off the scoring just before halftime. "I've said before, as long as the ball ends up in the back of the net it doesn't matter who takes it," Milner said on the penalty. Brad Guzan was on the bench for Villa.
Third Star: Troy Perkins was in goal for Valerenga's 4-1 result over Lyn. Bengt Saeternes opened the scoring in the 5th minute, and doubled that lead himself three minutes later. Mohammed Fellah made it 3-0 in the 17th before Lyn pulled a goal back when Fredrik Dahm scored in the 34th. Luton Shelton finished things off in the 51st.Clint Dempsey went 62 minutes for Fulham in their 2-1 loss to Wolves. Kevin Doyle (18th) and David Edwards (50th) had Wolves up before Danny Murphy pulled one back for Fulham in the 66th minute from the penalty spot. Marcus Hahnemann was on the bench for Wolverhapmton. Eddie Johnson wasn't in the squad for Fulham. Jozy Altidore went 64 minutes for Hull in their 1-0 loss to Birmingham City.
In France, Carlos Bocanegra went the full ninety in Rennes' 4-0 win over Grenoble. Asamoah opened the scoring in the first minute, and Rennes were up 2-0 by the 7th when Sylvain Marveaux scored. Abdou Kader Mangane made it 3-0 in the 20th, and Asamoah scored again in the 61st, this time from the penalty spot. Another huge score line, but the wrong result for the American's club. Sochaux lost 5-2 to Valenciennes, with Charlie Davies going the full 90. Sochaux had the early lead when Jeremie Brechet scored in the 3rd, but Valenciennes unloaded in the second-half after going into halftime down 2-1. Sochaux finished with ten men after Vaclav Sverkos was sent off in the 83rd minute.
Bundesliga, and Steve Cherundolo went the full ninety for Hannover in their 1-1 tie with Borussia Dortmund. Durtmund went up at the end of the first-half through Nrui Sahin. Didier Ya Konan had Hannover even three minutes in the second, to finish off the scoring. Cherundolo was yellow carded in the 77th minute. Sal Zizzo wasn't involved for Hannover. A league down, and Kenny Cooper went 81 minutes for 1860 Munich, 2-0 losers to Alemania Aachen. Benjamin Auer had both of Aachen's goals, scoring in the 44th and 90th minutes. Cooper was shown yellow in the 62nd minute.
MFL: Jose Francisco Torres got 73 minutes for San Luis in their 3-1 loss to Monterrey. Pachuca's Juan Cacho opened the scoring in the 50th minute, only for Monterrey to get two from Humberto Suazo (55th and 63rd) before Osvaldo Martinez finished off the scoring. Michael Orozco went the full ninety in San Luis's 4-2 loss to Cruz Azul, a game dominated by Cruz Azul's Emanuel Villa. He had Cruz Azul up two before San Luis got on the board, and ended up with all four of his club's goals.
Did Not Play: Jonathan Spector was on the bench as West Ham United lost to Liverpool 3-2. Jay DeMerit missed Watford's 3-3 draw with Leicester. Frank Simek was on the bench for Sheffield Wednesday, 3-2 losers to Sheffield United. Maurice Edu and DaMarcus Beasley missed Rangers' 0-0 draw with Kilmarnock. Oguchi Onyewu was on the bench for Milans 10- win against Bologna. Michael Bradley was on the bench for Borussia Dortmund, 4-2 losers to TSG Hoffenheim. Luis Robles was on the bench for Kaiserslautern's 2-1 win over St. Pauli. Freddy Adu missed Belenenses' 1-1 draw with Academica.
