With a chance to make a push towards the top of the Western Conference, the Colorado Rapids needed a 93rd minute penalty to salvage a point against San Jose on Wednesday night. Conor Casey's goal from the penalty spot equalized a 67th-minute penalty from San Jose's Chris Wondolowski. Until that point, Colorado had gone 377 minutes without being scored against.
"I think that tonight that we came out to get three points," Rapids midfielder Pablo Mastroeni said. "It was hard to break down a team that plays behind the ball. Soccer is a crazy game, we found ourselves controlling the game and putting their defense under pressure and they get a penalty kick to change the game. The important thing to gain from here is to have a short memory and get ready for Kansas City."
