Houston will need at least a draw against Kansas City on Sunday to stay top of the Western Conference. Right now, they trail the Galaxy by a point and will be even on games played after Sunday's game. Chicago are safely in second-place in the Eastern conference, but could trail Columbus by as much as eight points depending on the result of the Crew - Sounders game.
“Our guys put a lot into it tonight," Fire coach Denis Hamlett said. "Took some chances in the second half, trying to get the equalizer, and we left ourselves open in the back. Jon Busch made some big saves. We are just disappointed to lose the game on a play like that. We had some chances at the end, but we didn’t do anything with them. We never really tested Ricketts. We had some chances in front of the goal, but we just didn’t do well with them.
