Salt Lake 0 - Toronto 1
A 48th-minute goal from Toronto's Jim Brennan ended Real Salt Lake's push for a six-point week. RSL won on Wednesday to take over the final playoff slot, but was unable to hold on over the weekend. Instead, Toronto moves into eighth-place on a tiebreaker. FC keeper Brian Edwards picked up the shutout with nine saves. "That's the goal, you know," Edwards said. "You want to get the shutout and the win today and then train all week to put the pressure on."
Chicago 0 - New England 0
Needing points to separate themselves at the bottom of the playoff table, New England ended up with none on Saturday. It wasn't for lack of shooting, with the Revs taking 15 shots and putting seven on frame to Chicago's ten shots with 4 on frame. The Revolution also went six to three on corner kicks, but couldn't put a goal on the board. "The last two or three games I've been trying to carry the load and a lot of guys are trying to pick up the slack where we haven't been scoring and creating the chances," Revs midfielder Shalrie Joseph said. "Tonight we created a couple chances, but we just wasn't able to get into the net. But next week, we've got Columbus and it's going to be a must-win. We've got to pray some results go our way, but we've just got to look forward to try to win next week." New England is now one of four teams tied on 39 points, with the first tiebreaker favoring Toronto.Columbus 0 - DC 1
DC United took three points on a rain-soaked field at RFK to keep themselves in playoff contention. Luciano Emilio got the game's only goal in the 17th minute, converting one of only two shots DC put on frame. Columbus tested DC's latest keeper Steve Cronin six times, but he made the saves. "It's crazy this year, anything can happen," United coach Tom Soehn said. "We can still finish second in the conference, that's how crazy things are. Right now all we're concerned with is that we kept our hopes alive and put ourselves in a spot where we keep fighting for another day. So credit the guys, they fought their rears off today." The Crew's Emilio Renteria was sent off in the 83rd minute after subbing on in the 66th.
Seattle 3 - Kansas City 2
Though the home-standing Wizards didn't make it easy, but Seattle is in the playoffs in their first season as an MLS club. Both teams pushed the offense, with Tyrone Marshall putting the Sounders up in the 27th. That 1-0 lead held through halftime, before Zoltan Hercegfalvi equalized for the Wizards in the 51st. Josh Wolff had the Wizards in the lead two minutes later. Seattle answered back through Roger Levesque in the 69th, and Nate Jaqua hit the winner in the 76th minute. "We thought we had some chances definitely," Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. "We hit the crossbar and Hartman came up with a couple of saves. They played very well, and they have nothing to lose so they can cheat a little bit on defense and encourage their guys to go for it. They scored a couple of good goals, and luckily for us, we had a lot of character. We stuck with it and came back and pulled out the win."
Colorado 1 - Dallas 2
In a game where Dallas took 21 shots but put only five of them on frame, they ended up knocking off a team in front of them and keeping their playoff chances alive. George John put Dallas up in the fourth minute, and it took until the 66th for Ugo Ihemelu to double that. Colorado's Pat Noonan pulled a goal back in the 71st, but that would be it for the offense. "I thought the goal they got was one of their better chances," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "Then, we were able to hold on. I thought it was an exciting game. We kind of made it a little bit harder for ourselves but we can't complain too much about winning."
San Jose 2 - Chivas 2
Once again, the Earthquakes get a result against a team with a better record. This time it was Western Conference title contenders Chivas USA, hosting the Quakes and needing a late goal to get a point. Chivas USA went up first, with Maykel Galindo scoring in the 7th minute. San Jose answered back through Brandon McDonald in the 21st and took the lead when Ryan Johnson scored in the 58th. Justin Braun equalized for Chivas USA in the 66th. San Jose ended up perfect with their shots on goal, scoring on both of their attempts. "I think we got a little careless with the ball, started giving it away," Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein said. "But we came out in the second half, put a good effort on the field. Every single person that stepped on the field gave it all they had. In the end, another set piece goal that they get. We could have probably scored two or three more that we should have won the game with."
Los Angeles 0 - Houston 0
With both teams in position to make a big statement at the top of the Western Conference, the Dynamo and the Galaxy instead split the points. The Galaxy finished the game with one corner to Houston's eight, and were outshot 11 to nine, four to three on goal. Houston froward Brian Ching was red-carded in the 84th minute.
