Uruguay became the last country from the Americas to qualify for the 2010 World Cup, drawing 1-1 with Costa Rica at home, but winning 2-1 on aggregate. Sebastian Abreu gave Uruguay a two-goal lead at Centenario in Montevideo, scoring in the 69th-minute. Walter Centeno pulled a goal back for Costa Rica four minutes later, but Uruguay held on to qualify. Costa Rica finished with two shots on goal to Uruguay's six.
