Second Star: After leaving MLS for the Mexican Liga, Herculez Gomes made the most of his debut for Puebla, scoring in the 46th-minute in their 1-1 draw with Atlante. Gomez was subbed out in the 61st-minute.
Third Star: Carlos Bocanegra is back, anchoring his side of the Stade Rennes defense in their 4-2 win over Bordeaux at the Stade de la Route-de-Lorient. Rennes were up 3-0 by the 48th-minute and fought off an attempted comeback by Ligue 1 leaders Bordeaux to take all three points.
Also in the Premier League, Aston Villa drew 0-0 with Spurs with Brad Friedel in goal. Marcus Hahnemann was on goal for Wolverhampton, who lost 2-1 to Birmingham City. Jonathan Spector went the distance for West Ham United, who lost 2-1 to Burnley. In the Championship, Jay DeMerit went the full-ninety for Watford, who lost 1-0 to Barnsley. Frank Simek went the distance for Sheffield Wednesday, 2-1 losers to Nottingham Forest. Kenny Cooper made his debut for Plymouth Argyle, coming on in the 58th-minute in their 1-0 loss to West Brom.
Bundesliga, and Michael Bradley was the only American in action. He went the full-ninety for Borussia Moenchengladbach, losing 1-0 away to Mainz.
In Mexico, Edgar Castillo went the distance in Tigres' 2-2 draw with UNAM Pumas.
Aris lost 2-0 to Panthrakikos in a game that took two days to play. Eddie Johnson started and played the first half before the game was suspended during halftime due to a rain-soaked pitch. With Panthrakikos leading 1-0, the game resumed on Sunday afternoon. Panthrakikos converted a penalty in the 78th-minute for the 2-0 win. Johnson ended up going the full-ninety.
