Nery Castillo is now a member of the Chicago Fire. The club used a designated player slot to sign the Mexican National Team veteran on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk. The deal includes an option for Major League Soccer to make the loan permanent.
“I’m very happy to be joining the Fire, which is a club that I feel embodies the same values that I have as a player,” Castillo said. “When I put on a Fire jersey for the first time, my commitment to the fans and to my club will be to score goals, contribute on the pitch and win.”
Rumors earlier in the week had Cuauhtemoc Blanco rejoining the club as well, but Blanco signed with Mexican second division club Irapuato.
