With several League teams out of action for exhibition and SuperLiga competition, five games were on the schedule. Columbus overcame a midweek upset by adding points to the top of the table at the direct expense of New York. Meanwhile, at Pizza Hut Park, Dallas got a big win over Real Salt Lake and DC United honored one of the best players in Major League Soccer's history by adding Eddie Pope to their Hall of Tradition.
Philadelphia 2 - Toronto 1
Philadelphia took the lead in the 61st minute when Michael Orozco scored, and Toronto grabbed an 81st minute equalizer through Chad Barett. That setup the opportunity for Sebastien Le Toux to be the hero for the Union, stepping up to the penalty spot in stoppage time. He converted the penalty for the 2-1 win.
"I think it was a fortunate reversal today," Philadelphia manager Peter Nowak said. "It was good to win a game in this fashion. I think the better team won today. We slept one time and got punished for it. It feels good to get three points."
Columbus 2 - New York 0
The Crew recovered from a Wednesday loss to Kansas City by beating New York at Crew Stadium. Emilio Renteria scored in the 20th minute and Bryan Carroll finished off the scoring in the 48th.
Dallas 2 - Salt Lake 0
FC Dallas surprised Real Salt Lake at Pizza Hut Park, scoring two second-half goals and dominating the offensive opportunities. Brek Shea scored in the 69th minute and Atiba Harris made it 2-0 in the 76th. Dallas led 8 to 3 on shots on goal and 4 to 1 on corners.
"I started off slow, missed a few," Shea told MLSSoccer.com. "I had some bad touches and bad passes. As the game went on, I think the team got better. I got a lucky rebound and scored. I should have had some other chances."
Colorado 1 - Kansas City 1
Coming off their midweek win over Columbus, the Wizards took a 20th minute lead through a David Arnaud goal. Conor Casey equalized in the 73rd, scoring with their only shot on goal.
“Overall I think if we would have started on this road trip and said we would get four points from three games we would have been happy with that," Wizards midfielder Davy Arnaud said. "Looking back at tonight I like to say we went up early and if we would have gotten the second one we could have closed the game out. This is not an easy place to come and play and they are a good team and this is tough place to come and get points. Like I said if we could have gotten that second we could have gotten all three points."
DC 1 - Los Angeles 2
A somewhat mundane first-half ended up with an LA lead through Edson Buddle's 38th minute opener. That held until the 54th when Andy Najar equalized for United. But LA was back on top four minutes later when Landon Donovan converted from the penalty spot, giving the visiting Galaxy all three points.
