Philadelphia 1 - Kansas City 1
Sebastien Le Toux had the Union up a goal on the road 33 minutes in, but Davy Arnaud would equalize in the 71st to split the points at PPL Park. Arnaud hit from distance to beat the Philadelphia defense. Both teams finished with 3 shots on goal with the Wizards leading 7 to 4 on corners.
"I thought we started off pretty well in the first ten or 15 minutes," Arnaud said. "After that I feel they took control of the first half, which is a credit to them. They created a few chances and probably deserved to be up 1-0 at halftime, but I thought that our response was good as a team. We came out in the second playing much better and we got the goal at a good time. In the end, there were some chances and we could have gotten three points, but this is not an easy place to play, and they are a very good team. After the first half, we are happy to take a point."
Chicago 1 - Los Angeles 1
In a prestige matchup, few questions were answered at Toyota Park. Gonzalo Segares was red carded for as foul in the box in the 22nd minute, but Chicago got a reprieve when Landon Donovan missed the ensuing penalty. Collins John seemed to have sealed three points for the Fire with his 88th minute goal from a free kick, but Omar Gonzalez scored from a Donovan corner in stoppage time to split the points. After announcing he'll be retiring at the end of the season, Chicago forward Brian McBride started and played 77 minutes.
DC 0 - Columbus 1
After getting knocked out of the US Open Cup at the semifinal stage by Columbus on Wednesday night at RFK, DC United responded with no shots on goal as they hosted the Crew in MLS action on Saturday. Guillermo Barros Schelotto scored the game's only goal in the 22nd minute. Schelotto took advantage of a miscommunication in the United defense.
"The defender plays it to the goalie, unfortunately the goalie makes a mistake, and then it was my ball, and I scored," Schelotto said. "The team was pressuring far up, I pressured too, and luckily I pressured to the point where I was able to take it away from the goalie and scored, after that we controlled the game, and we never lost it."
New England 3 - Seattle 1
Seattle went up a goal at Gillette Stadium in the 58th minute when Steve Zakuani scored, but it was the Revolution taking over in the second-half. Chris Tierney equalized in the 70th, and it was 2-1 when Marko Perovic scored three minutes later. Kheli Dube finished off the score line in the 81st minute. Seattle finished with 3 shots on goal to the Revs' 7 with both teams taking 4 corner kicks.
"I thought we were okay, until we’re up 1-0 and the altercation occurred between Shalrie (Joseph) and Patrick Ianni," Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. "At that point, I thought we lost our composure a little bit and gave away a couple of goals that we shouldn’t have given away. Obviously the game turned and they scored their chances and the game was over."
FC Dallas 1 - Toronto 0
Jeff Cunningham's goal in first-half stoppage time was the difference at Pizza Hut Park, with Dallas now unbeaten in 13 games. Dallas goalkeeper and recently named MLS Player of the Month Kevin Hartman needed 2 saves for the shutout. Toronto's Martin Saric was sent off in the 88th minute after being shown his second yellow card.
"We made one mistake," Toronto coach Preki said. "We paid for it. I thought Dallas in a funny way stole the points and that’s the way of soccer. If it bounces you have to get a little lucky and we had no luck tonight. Though we had plenty of opportunities and a few chances, the ball didn’t bounce for us, it hasn’t been bouncing for us away from home and that’s something that’s coming hard for us."
Colorado 3 - Chivas USA 0
Omar Cummings scored twice (68th and 80th) at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, adding to Conor Casey's 51st minute opener. Matt Pickens needed 1 save for the shutout in a game where Colorado dominated the opportunities. The Rapids put all 8 of their shots on goal, with Chivas USA only taking one shot.
"I didn’t think we played well the first half, especially me," Cummings said. "My touches were bad and off a little bit. So going into the second half, I thought why not change (my shoes). Change my attitude and be more aggressive, take some shots and try to score some goals."
Salt Lake 1 - New York 0
Real Salt Lake took a 4th minute lead through Fabian Espindola and that was it for the scoring at Rio Tinto Stadium. With Rafa Marquez with Mexico, Thierry Henry and the Red Bulls offense managed only three shots on goal. Nick Rimando picked up the shutout and RSL are now unbeaten in 22 games at Rio Tinto.
"We wanted to focus on the whole team because they’ve got a lot of quality players all around," Rimando said. "It wasn’t just me, it wasn’t just the defenders, it was the whole team that shut those guys down defensively. Passing lanes and double-teaming players, we focused on that today and they really didn’t have a lot of chances, and the ones they did our defenders took care of them."
Houston 0 - San Jose 1
The Earthquakes moved into the thick of it in the middle of the Western Conference by beating Houston on Sunday night. Khari Stephenson put he Quakes up 5 minutes in with Brad Davis equalizing in the 46th. Giovani Deiberson put San Jose back in front in the 64th. San Jose spent the final 16 minutes playing a man down after Sam Cronin was sent off. For Houston, dropping three points at home means there's now a -point gap between 7th and 6th place, with the Dynamo on the wrong side.
