With the weekend schedule filled with FA Cup games in England, the start of the Clausura in Mexico, and La Liga getting ESPN attention, we take you through the National Teamers Abroad results.
In England, Jonathan Spector scored West Ham United’s opening goal in the 29th minute in a 2-0 win over Burnley. Frederic Piquionne finished off the scoring in stoppage time. West Ham advance to play Nottingham Forest.
"Sometimes these games can be more difficult because the other team is really up for it, coming to a great stadium like this with our renowned support,” Spector told the club’s official site. “I'm sure they were excited to be here for this game. We obviously wanted to put the game to bed earlier and the second goal came later than we'd have liked."
Fulham also advanced to the next round of the FA Cup, beating Petersborough United 6-2. Clint Dempsey started and played 61 minutes. Fulham was up four goals before Petersborough scored. Fulham play Spurs in the next round. Everton also advanced in the Cup, with Tim Howard in goal for the 5-1 win over Scunthorpe United. Everton drew Chelsea in the next round. Brad Friedel was in goal for Aston Villa, also advancing in the Cup 3-1 over Sheffield United. They play Blackburn in the next round. Marcus Hahnemann was in goal for Wolverhampton’s 2 – 2 draw with Doncaster.
Edgar Castillo got the start on loan from Club America with new club Puebla, playing the first-half in the 1-1 draw with Chivas. Felix Borja equalized for Puebla in the 54th minute. Pachuca started their 2011 Clausura season with a 2-0 win over Club America. Herculez Gomez subbed on in the 68th minute.
