It was a tough night for Oguchi Onyewu and Twente in the Europa League, with a lopsided loss at El Madrigal. Villarreal opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, adding two more goals in the 43rd and 45th to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. They scored again in the 55th and 80th minutes. Twente spoiled the shutout with a stoppage time goal. Onyewu started and played 90 minutes. While admitting that the home and home series is likely done after the opening leg, Twente coach Michel Preud'homme maintained some optimism. He told his club's official site: "if there is life, there is hope."
