Former DC United midfielder and US National Team player Richie Williams will be inducted into United’s Hall of Tradition, the club announced on Tuesday. Williams played for DC from 1996 until 2000, rejoining the team in 2002. He was part of three MLS Cup winning squads with DC. From 1998 through 2002, he had 20 appearances with the United States National Team, winning the 2002 Gold Cup.
“It’s an honor to be inducted into the Hall,” Williams said in a press statement. “I had the pleasure of playing, working and winning championships with the best players, coaches and front office staff in MLS history. The memories from those years are unforgettable and D.C. United will always hold a special place in my heart. I want to thank the fans for this special honor and look forward to celebrating with them on August 27th.”
