UNAM Pumas 0 - Dallas 1
FC Dallas opened their Group C campaign on the road in Mexico City and came away with the win. Marvin Chavez was the difference for Dallas, scoring in the 66th minute. Kevin Hartman recorded the shutout.
“I'll tell you the first man who broke the four-minute mile was a man named Roger Bannister," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "The next week, I think another six people broke the four-minute mile… because they believed in it. For us, for the first team to beat a good Mexican team in Mexico, I hope that more MLS teams will have the same courage to play good soccer and I hope that we continue to find success here."
Colorado 3 - Metapan 2
The Rapids came back twice at Dick's Sporting Goods Park to take all three points on Wednesday night. Metapan opened the scoring in the 2nd minute from the penalty spot, with Colorado equalizing through Macoumba Kandji in the 16th. Kandji was seeing his first playing time since Colorado's MLS Cup win last season. Metapan was back in front in the 25th, but went down a man in the 41st when Allan Kardeck was red carded. It was Kandji again with the equalizer, scoring just before halftime. Andre Akpan's goal in the 50th minute sealed the win for the Rapids.
