FC Dallas got a 1-0 home win over Alianza to advance to the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League 2-0 on aggregate. Ugo Ihemelu scored the game's only goal in the 37th minute with Kevin Hartman picking up the shutout. Dallas joins UNAM Pumas, Tauro, and Toronto in Group C.
"What you saw tonight was fatigue," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "Our players were making mistakes they don’t normally make. If you look at the month of July it was the hardest month in the history of FC Dallas. The players keep finding a way to win and that comes from determination and character."
Meanwhile, in Seattle an Alvaro Fernandez goal in the 31st minute sent the series with San Francisco into overtime. In the 98th minute, Nate Jaqua scored to sent the Sounders into the group stage with a 3-2 aggregate win. Seattle joins Monterrey and Comunicaciones in Group D along with the winner of the Herediano - Alpha United series that concludes on Thursday night. Herediano leads 8-0 after the first-leg.
