Toronto FC advanced to the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League with a 2-1 win on Tuesday night (4-2 on aggregate) at the Independencia in Nicaragua. Ryan Johnson was the hero for Toronto, scoring on either side of an Esteli penalty. Johnson's opener came in the 37th minute when he took a chance on a long shot that paid off. Esteli equalized from the penalty spot just before halftime after Toronto was called for a handball in the box. It was Johnson again in the 47th minute, taking advantage of a weak clearance to give Toronto the win on the night. Toronto advances to Group C where UNAM Pumas and Panama's Tauro wait. FC Dallas has the chance to become the last Group C club on Wednesday if they can advance past Alianza.
