With Seattle coach Sigi Schmid stressing the importance of the MLS and Open Cup schedule in fielding a weak lineup in Mexico, Columbus proved little problem for the Sounders at CenturyLink Field. Seattle was already up four goals when Jeff Cunningham converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute to become Major League Soccer's all-time leading scorer. Lamar Neagle had a hat trick for Seattle, scoring in the 4th, 21st, and 70th minutes. Mauro Rosales converted a 16th minute penalty and Mike Fucito scored in the 40th, with Seattle's 6th goal an own goal. Josh Gardner scored the Crew's second goal in the 74th minute.
"This is a great feeling," Cunningham said on his record. "Fourteen years is a long time in this league and to become the all-time scoring leader is a great honor. There have been some great players who are part of this league, and I’m just honored to be a part of their group in terms of goal production. I’m very humbled (to be among the likes of) Jamie Moreno, Brian McBride, Landon Donavon, and all those guys. The list goes on and I’m just honored to be grouped with those guys."
Toronto 1 - San Jose 1
Eric Avila had Toronto in the lead 33 minutes in, and it looked like they would hold on at home. Chris Wondolowski changed that with an 87th minute equalizer. The point leaves both teams in 8th-place in their respective conferences.
"I definitely knew that Jacob Peterson had a long throw and so we were setting up for it," Wondolowski said. "Bobby Burling had a great flick on the near post and I was just trying to catch the back post and it came right to me."
Vancouver 1 - Houston 0
The Whitecaps might still be the bottom team in the Western Conference, but a win is a win in their debut season in Major League Soccer. Shea Salinas scored the game's only goal in the 86th minute, with Joe Cannon picking up the shutout. This is Vancouver's fourth win of the season, with all of them coming at Empire Field.
Chicago 2 - Colorado 0
Chicago got three points and their second consecutive win in what has seemed like a season of draws and disappointment. Dominic Oduro opened the scoring in the 17th minute and Cory Gibbs doubled the lead in the 36th. The Fire are 7th in the Eastern Conference with Colorado 4th in the West.
Kansas City 2 - Dallas 3
Dallas had to turn it on late and take advantage of being a man up to get three points at LIVESTRONG Stadium. Kei Kamara opened the scoring in the 22nd minute and Sporting was two goals up when Omar Bravo scored in the 68th. Dallas cut that lead in half through Daniel Hernandez in the 70th minute and Team Bunbery was shown a second yellow for a reckless foul to put Dallas a man up six minutes later. Maicon Santos equalized for Dallas in the 89th minute and Brek Shea scored the winning goal a minute into stoppage time.
"First off, great stadium, great crowd, I really enjoyed the environment," Shea said. "I think it was back and forth pretty much all game. They went ahead in the first half, and could’ve been up 2-0, I thought maybe we could have got a goal as well. The second half they got up 2-0, but this team showed what we’re all about and we didn’t give up, we kept fighting."
Chivas USA 0 - Real Salt Lake 1
In need of points to stay in contention in the West, Real Salt Lake looked to have shot themselves in the foot midway through the first-half at The Home Depot Center. After taking the lead through an 11th minute Alvaro Saborio goal, Nat Borchers was sent off in the 24th minute for denying a goal scoring opportunity. RSL held on, with Nick Rimando picking up the shutout.
“It was a good one for us," Rimando said. "We knew we could come in here and get a result, we’ve done it before. The objective was to get a zero. We know when we play good defense we’re capable of getting results on the road and that’s exactly what we did."
