A big night at the Cottage for Clint Dempsey, who scored twice in a three goal shutout of Dnipro. Aaron Hughes opened the scoring for Fulham in the 39th minute. Dempsey's goals came in the 43rd and 49th, with both goals coming off of crosses. Mark Schwarzer kept the clean sheet for Fulham.
"We could have scored four or five and they had probably more shots on goal than we liked in the last 20 minutes," Fulham manager Martin Jol said.. "They could have scored a goal as well but I think 3-0 is probably a realistic scoreline."
Bursaspor 1 - Anderlecht 2
Sacha Kljestan went the distance for Anderlecht at the Ataturk Stadium. Bursaspor took the lead at home from the penalty spot in the 36th minute. Anderlect converted a penalty of their own to equalize in the 53rd minute. Milan Jovanovich scored the winner in the 77th after subbing on in the 65th minute. Bursaspor finished a man down when Ibrahim Kas was shown a second yellow card in the 88th minute.
Hannover 96 2 - Sevilla 1
Steve Cherundolo got the start for Hannover, and Jan Schlaudraff had them up a goal seven minutes in. Sevilla equalized in the 38th, but it was Schlaudraff again in the 45th with the winner.
FC Nordsjaelland 0 - Sporting 0
Michael Parkhurst took his regular place in Nordsjaelland's starting eleven for a scoreless home draw against Sporting. Oguchi Onyewu was on the bench for Sporting.
NK Maribor 2 - Rangers 1
The home side got the late goal at the Stadion Ljudski vrt on a bad night for Rangers. With Carlos Bocanegra starting in the Rangers defense a day after signing with the club and Maurice Edu in his regular place in midfield, Rangers were up a goal when Juan Manuel Ortiz scored in the 31st minute. Maribor equalized in the 52nd and scored the winner in stoppage time. Alejandro Bedoya wasn't in the squad for Rangers.
"In the first half I though we were ok although I still feel we can play better than that," Rangers manager Ally McCoist said. "But we sat back after the break and they looked more hungry and more determined to get goals. I would have been disappointed with 1-1 so you can imagine how I'm feeling right now."
