Brad Guzan and Eric Lichaj both started in Aston Villa's 2-0 win over Hereford United in the Carling Cup on Tuesday. Lichaj scored the opening goal in the 80th minute, with Villa doubling the lead eight minutes later. Lichaj was yellow carded in the 70th minute.
"You're always wondering if the players are thinking seriously about the start and approach to the game when they are playing against a team from a lower division," Villa manager Alex McLeish said. "But I thought they went about it really well."
Robbie Findley also got a Carling Cup goal in Nottingham Forest's 4-1 win at Wycombe Wanderers. Ishmael Miller put Forest up three minutes in, and it was 3-0 when Findley scored in the 62nd minute.
Miller and Findley have so much pace and this gave us more options," Forest manager Steve McClaren said. Their penetration gave Radi and Lewis more room in midfield and they came alive."
